St Beaandan's Chapel is associated with St Beaandan, a 7th-century Irish monk and missionary linked to the spread of Christianity in northern Britain. The chapel and its holy well were traditionally visited for healing rituals, particularly for ailments of the eyes and skin, and were sites of pilgrimage during the medieval period.
