St. Annes Churhc

Situated on a high, steep cliff overlooking Passage East. St Anne's oratory was built after 1284 by Matthew de Bruys of Coolmacsawry, a manor of the surrounding area. A church is recorded on Jobson's map of 1591 (TCD, MSS 1209 (64)) and it is depicted as a ruin in a 1685 drawing by Phillips (Walton 1979a, 21). A new church, which had been built on the site by 1746, is now converted into a dwelling. No remains of the original church are evident. St Anne's Well (WA018-009004-) is c. 90m to the SW. Walton, J.
