What is recorded here

Gateway, extant 1909, on a symmetrical plan comprising pair of vermiculated-banded granite ashlar piers supporting replacement steel double gates with vermiculated-banded granite ashlar outer piers supporting spear head-detailed cast-iron railings. Now disused. Road fronted at entrance to grounds of Springfield.
A gateway not only making a pleasing, if increasingly forlorn visual statement in a sylvan street scene at the entrance on to the grounds of the Springfield estate, but also illustrating the continued development or "improvement" of the estate in the later nineteenth century.

This does not grant access. Most recorded buildings are privately owned; view them only from public ground unless the owner allows entry.
