Smuggler's Cave, Cullercoats Bay is a coastal cave formed in Carboniferous limestone through marine erosion and wave action. The cave's name reflects local folklore and historical suspicions of its use for smuggling goods along the North Sea coast during the 18th and 19th centuries.
