Local tradition places the 17th-century stronghold of Phelim McFeagh O'Byrne on a marked northeast-facing slope above the Avonbeg valley. Nothing visible remains at ground level, yet the story persists because the land still leans toward the valley like a watcher. A castle may have stood there, dropped stones and forgotten rooms, while men looked down for danger or distance. The absence does not erase the shape; it invites imagination to complete what time removed.
