Site of Church

Situated in pasture on a bluff overlooking the River Suir to the W. It is marked on the Down Survey (1655-6) map and is marked 'Site of Church' on the 1840 ed. of the OS 6-inch map. The church was dedicated to St Mainchin according to J. O'Donovan c. 1838 (O'Flanagan 1929, 51). It is not visible at ground level, and is adjacent to Kilmanahan Castle (WA001-0162----) which it may have served as a chapel, although it had a graveyard (WA001-015002-). O'Flanagan, M.
