Enclosure in Knocklofty Demesne — Report the wrong picture

What is recorded here

On the S-facing slope of Guggy Hill in undulating terrain, under tillage. The westernmost of two conjoined enclosures. It is not depicted on the 1st (1840) OS 6-inch map but is on the 1904-05 ed. OS 6-inch map as a circular raised area (diam. c. 32m) in an area of woodland in Knocklofty Demesne, with field boundaries to the E and W. The woodland has subsequently been cleared, the field boundary to the E removed and the enclosure levelled with no visible trace above ground. In an aerial photograph (OS 8758; no date), it appears as a cropmark with a conjoined circular enclosure (TS082-077001-) of slightly smaller dimension attached to the E quadrant. The field boundary to the W is still intact with a farm roadway now running along the E side of the boundary up to the summit of the hill. Compiled by: Jean Farrelly Date of upload: 12 February 2014
