Site of Church

Depicted faintly as a rectangular structure (dims. c. 15m E-W; c. 10m N-S) that is described as a church within the enclosure (WX024-035001-) on the1839 ed. of the OS 6-inch map. The enclosure is described as a 'fort' used for burial by John O’Donovan writing c. 1840 (O'Flanagan 1933, vol. 2, 347). The site is situated in the valley of the NE-SW Poulmounty River in the foothills of White Mountain with the stream c. 40m to the W. This is a subrectangular platform (diam. c. 50m), locally known to be stony, but there is no evidence of a church or of burial (WX024-035002-) in a root crop.
