David Power of Shangarry owned a small decayed castle in Ross around 1640, but the stones vanished before the 1926 map last marked the site. The castle is buried under cereal crop on a gentle south-facing slope, invisible to the walker. Power may have lived inside walls that no longer show, or the castle may have crumbled into the soil before he arrived. Either way, Ross kept the shape of the loss while forgetting the name of the room.

Situated in cereal crop on a gentle S-facing slope. Marked only on the 1926 ed. of the OS 6-inch map. A 'small decayed castle' in Ross was owned by David Power of Shangarry, Co. Cork, c. 1640 (Simington 1942, 136). It is not visible at ground level.
