Siege of Dublin

Ormonde and Inchiquin threw five thousand eight hundred men around Dublin in June 1649, believing the city would collapse without outside help. They sat on gravel and clay north of the walls, waiting for starvation to do what swords could not, while Jones held the capital with fewer than five thousand. The wait ended when Rathmines broke the Royalist line and Cromwell's shadow appeared on the horizon, turning a decisive siege into a retreat.
