Castle Street in Dublin hid a wooden habitation beneath its modern surface until excavations in 1991 revealed stakes and a post-and-wattle wall. The buried layers held leather, shells, silt and bones, proving people lived there long before the street took its present shape.
Excavations in 1991 at32-34 Castle Street exposed a number of wooden stakes and a post and wattle wall associated with organic layers containing leather, shells, silt and bones (Hayden 1992, 12).
The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
