What is recorded here
Freestanding Roman Catholic shrine, erected c.1930, containing plaster statue of Sacred Heart of Jesus. Square box with moulded side plinths, gabled cap and with acrylic covered round headed opening to front and similarly covered square-headed lights to sides, and timber battened access door to rear. Set on stepped concrete platform to roadside with rendered and painted boundary walls to side and rear.
Shrines and grottos, especially Marian shrines, have been a traditional sight on Irish roads for more than a century. A prominent landmark on the road, this modest shrine is well cared for and a focal point for the religious community in the area.
