Ballylahan is a phantom town in County Mayo, reduced to a name floating above forgotten earth. Jordan de Exeter raised a castle at a broad ford on the River Moy in the thirteenth century, creating a market where trade and power collided. The water, stones, and people vanished together, leaving behind only a ghostly outline of human ambition.

This settlement, associated with a castle (MA065001-) was listed in the 1635-7 Strafford Inquisition of Co. Mayo as follows: "..the castle, town and lands of Rosse commonly called Rosse Mc Paddin..."
