Kilmorchil vanished from County Laois after a seventeenth-century grant named it beside Clomany, leaving behind a village that never stopped moving. People may have walked past Kilmullen or Clonanny without knowing they were touching the edge of a lost neighbourhood. The land kept its shape while the name slipped away, proving that memory can leave a place before people do.

Unlocated village within the townland of Kilmorchil mentioned in the OS letters as part of a seventeenth century land grant to Owen Mac High O'Dempsie where it describes the villages of 'Clomany and Kimorhcill'(O'Flanagan 1933, vol. ii, p. 52). There is no such townland in County Laois. Kilmorchill townland may be a reference to the townland of Kilmullen which is the adjoining townland to Clonanny (Clonmany) which would match the above historical description.
