Settlement deserted — Report the wrong picture

Bellhill in County Offaly holds a deserted medieval settlement where a fifth-century foundation became a priory, then a parish church, then a legal footnote. Double earthworks still circle the site, a low motte rises inside them, and the base of a round tower remains beside the ruined church. By 1568 the priory had shrunk to a thatched stone house, six cottages and forty acres, yet the shape of the place still suggests layers of worship, defence and reuse.

Unlocated possible medieval settlement within the townland of Ballintemple (Comerford 1883, 136).
