Saints Island is a crannog in County Mayo, Ireland. It is a man-made island, likely built from earth, stone and timber to raise a home or shrine above dangerous water. The name suggests people placed something sacred there, perhaps a chapel or a retreat for prayer. The cleant edge of the island may have hidden a small doorway, a fire pit or a wooden stair, now gone beneath the lake.
