Saint Mary's Catholic Church

Detached three-bay two-storey presbytery, occupied 1901, on a rectangular plan with three-bay two-storey rear (west) elevation. Undergoing "restoration", 2012-3. Replacement hipped slate roof with clay ridge tiles, paired rendered central chimney stacks having stepped capping supporting terracotta pots, and cast-iron rainwater goods on rendered eaves retaining cast-iron downpipe. Roughcast walls bellcast on rendered plinth. Segmental-headed central door opening with cut-granite threshold, timber doorcase with panelled pilasters supporting lead-covered cornice on "Acanthus"-detailed fluted consoles, and moulded rendered surround framing timber panelled door having overlight. Square-headed window openings including square-headed window openings to rear (west) elevation with cut-granite sills, and concealed yellow brick block-and-start surrounds framing two-over-two timber sash windows with two-over-two timber sash windows to rear (west) elevation centred on one-over-one timber sash window (first floor). Interior including (ground floor): central hall retaining carved timber surrounds to door openings framing timber panelled doors; and carved timber surrounds to door openings to remainder framing timber panelled doors with carved timber surrounds to window openings framing timber panelled shutters. Set in landscaped grounds shared with Saint Mary's Catholic Church.

A presbytery representing an integral component of the nineteenth-century built heritage of south County Dublin with the architectural value of the composition suggested by such attributes as the compact rectilinear plan form centred on a Classically-detailed doorcase demonstrating good quality workmanship; and the diminishing in scale of the openings on each floor producing a graduated visual impression. Having been well maintained, the elementary form and massing survive intact together with substantial quantities of the original fabric, both to the exterior and to the interior, thereby upholding the character or integrity of a presbytery forming part of a neat self-contained group alongside the adjacent Saint Mary's Catholic Church (see 60220042) and nearby parochial house (see 60220043) with the resulting ecclesiastical ensemble making a pleasing visual statement in an urbanised village street scene.
