Ruthin Castle was built in the late 13th century by Dafydd ap Gruffydd, Prince of Gwynedd, and later captured and strengthened by Edward I of England. It is important as a key example of Welsh and English medieval military architecture and as a symbol of the struggle for control of North Wales during the late Middle Ages.
