Built by Dafydd ap Gruffydd, Prince of Gwynedd, in the late 13th century, Ruthin Castle was later captured and strengthened by Edward I of England during his conquest of Wales. It is important as a key example of medieval Welsh and English military architecture and as a symbol of the struggle for control of North Wales.
