Ruadh Chleit rises to approximately 400 metres and is composed primarily of basalt and sedimentary rock typical of the western Scottish islands. Its name, meaning "Red Slope" in Gaelic, may reflect its reddish soil or heather-covered aspect; it matters as a topographic feature within the rugged landscape of Na h-Eileanan Siar.
