Root Stacks is a coastal rock feature located in the Shetland Islands, composed primarily of Old Red Sandstone, formed during the Devonian period around 400 to 360 million years ago. The stacks are notable for their dramatic sea-stack formations, which were sculpted by erosion from wave action and weathering over millions of years.
