Rock art

What is recorded here

Magic rock, vanished rock. A smooth slope in County Donegal held one giant shallow cup inside a broad ring, waiting for human eyes. Men with dynamite killed the mystery before ink dried on its description.
Described by Van Hoek as ' Only a couple of metres NW of DON 24B (DG004-066001-) and on a lower level is a large and smooth outcrop area sloping from 9 degrees to 13 degrees to the SSW. It bears two small single cupmarks, a small cup with one complete ring, and a very large but rather shallow cupmark surrounded by one large complete ring' (Fig. 8G) (Van Hoek 1987, 36). This area of rock outcrop had been blown up with dynamite for quarrying by 1988 (Van Hoek 1988, 47). Compiled by: Caimin O'Brien Date of upload/revision: : 30 May 2010
