Road

This pre-bog trackway is located on the NW side of the Kealduff river valley, at the base of a knoll on which a standing stone (KE082-031----) is located. Peat-cutting has uncovered a 12m long stretch of stone track which runs NNE-SSW and disappears beneath the bog at N. It averages 1.4m wide and is defined on both edges with regular slabs; smaller stones pave its centre. The above description is derived from A. O'Sullivan and J. Prehistoric gravel/stone trackway, likely Bronze Age in date. It represents an early transport feature constructed to facilitate movement across wet peatland, indicating human adaptation to the landscape.
