What is recorded here

This togher (L 30m min.; Wth 0.55m; D 0.1m), noted in 1988, was orientated E-W and was composed of longitudinal roundwood of birch, ash and oak placed end to end, with up to four laid parallel. The togher was recognized in two other fields and probably extended from the dry land to the E to that to the W. Radiocarbon dating revealed a date range of 1684-1440 BC (3280±45 BP, GrN-16564) (Raftery 1990, 19; 1996, Derryoghil 8, 129-30). When inspected in 1999 (Dunne) it was visible in the headland section face, which was much higher than the adjacent milled surface. A superstructure of roundwood (diam. 0.10-0.13m) overlay densely packed brushwood (diam. 0.02-0.025m).
