Road

The site (Wth 4.45m; D 0.35m) consists of a band of light brushwood and twigs in opposing drain faces. The brushwood is irregularly laid up to five pieces deep with twigs found throughout, but more concentrated where the brushwood is most dense. The site appears to be more compact towards its NW end. The discontinuous nature of the horizon may suggest that more than one feature is present. Structural evidence is lacking and the depth of the site may indicate that it accumulated over a period of time. A number of pieces have metal-cut toolmarks. Wood species include birch, oak, willow and alder. The site is located in well-humified Sphagnum and Eriophorum peat with some ericaceous roots. SMR OF015-190---- lies immediately above this site and SMR OF015-191---- is c. 1m to the SE in the same peat stratum. Compiled by: Irish Archaeological Wetland Unit (University College Dublin).
