Ring-ditch in Thomastown (cadamstown Ed)

Ring-ditch

What is recorded here

Ring-ditch in Thomastown (cadamstown Ed) marks a forgotten enclosure in County Kildare, Ireland, beside a possible ringfort. The ditch no longer breaks the soil, yet drought or moisture still draws its shape through the crop. That much is known. What is lost is the reason it was dug, the hands that carried earth, and whether the larger enclosure to the west belonged to the same family or to rival neighbours. The field keeps both secrets, waiting for rain to reveal them again.
Situated in SE corner of field containing cropmarks of several enclosures. Ring-ditch visible as a cropmark on aerial photograph taken 11/07/2018. Cropmark of larger enclosure or possible ringfort (KD003-036----) immediately to W. Compiled by: Caimin O'Brien based on details kindly provided by Noel Murphy Date of upload: 2 August 2018
