What is recorded here
This record refers to a possible nunnery in Killybrone townland. Neary (1913-14, 14) lists it as ‘Cill Foreland, a long vanished nunnery in Killybrone, near Mullaghorne’. It may have been associated with a church (MA015-060001-) and graveyard (MA015-060002-), which according to the 1838 OS Letters (O’Flanagan 1927, 287-8 (124)) and local tradition was located on summit of the ridge in the W part of the townland, close to a destroyed ringfort (MA015-048---), Mullaghorn Fort. However, no trace of a church or nunnery is now evident on the ridge top.
