Weir stands on the northern shore beside Bush Island, a double row of posts stretching twenty metres through the shallow water. Built after the medieval era, it trapped fish in the Shannon tide rather than blocking the river entirely. The structure still marks human patience: reading the current, placing wooden bones inside it, and waiting for the water to do the work.
