Water mill

At the bend of a small stream which flows NE-SW. Described by Lucas (1953, 27-8) as, 'a wide deep trench forming the chord of a bend in a small stream. The trench runs approximately N.E.-S.W., is over 700 feet [c. 213m] long and, perhaps 12-18 feet [c. 3.6-5.5m] wide at the top. It is rock cut in places and appears to be about 15 feet [c. 4.5m] deep in some spots...There is a local tradition that a mill was formerly situated here and if the cutting is not a mill race it is difficult to imagine for what purpose it was made'.
