Wart Well in County Cork destroyed warts until field drainage killed the water and the magic died. A practical knife cut a mystical throat, reminding people that nature and myth share one breath.

Marked only on 1842 OS 6-inch map. According to Grove White (1905-25, vol. 3, 341), well possessed 'power of destroying warts...done away with when draining the field'. Access to site not gained. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 4: North Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2000). The Wart Well at Kilpadder North was traditionally believed to have the power to cure warts, a remedy noted by Grove White in the early 20th century. The well's curative properties were reportedly lost when the surrounding field was drained.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
