House

Aungier street is one of Dublin's oldest thoroughfares, laid out in 1661 as a high class residential suburb by Francis Aungier, First Earl of Longford. Over the next twenty years a series of prestigious town houses were erected, catering for a privileged population that included bishops, earls and high ranking military. Most of these houses were of stone and brick with high pitched roofs and dormer windows, or fronted with plain or decorative gables. It is mentioned in deeds dating to the 17th century (pers comm.
