The medieval parish church of St. George stood in Georges Lane near the junction of Exchequer Street and South Great George's Street (Wheeler and Craig 1948, 17). It was assigned to the Priory of All Hallows prior to 1233. In 1457 parliament levied a tax for its repair (Gilbert 1854-9, 181-2). The church was taken down by 1586 (Bradley & King 1987, 113).
