What is recorded here

Thomas Waterhouse, Alderman of Dublin, and his two beloved wives Rose and Anne sleep beneath a 17th-century chest tomb inside St James' Parish Church. The stone carries his arms and the Latin promise that virtue lives after death, a quiet boast for a man who ruled the city and loved twice. He died in 1664, but the inscription suggests he still walks the memory of Dublin, unchanged by burial.

17th-century chest-tomb located inside St James' Parish Church (DU018-020346-) that was described by Thomas Dineley as follows; 'St. James hath besides the above monument of my Lord of Tarrah, the following, with these arms and Inscripcon: [Arms] Here under lyeth interr'd the body of Thomas Waterhouse, late Alderman of the city of Dublin, also the bodies of his beloved wives Rose and Anne; the sayd Alderma departed this life the 17 day of february Anno Domini mdclxiv [1664].
