Indicated is a settlement cluster in Toberrory,glenballythomas, County Roscommon, Ireland. On the Rathcroghan plateau, low earthen banks divide a two-hectare area into small rectangular paddocks beside a widened road. Four rectangular houses with one to three rooms occupy the paddocks, including two sites integral to the division and one incorporating the road boundary in its south wall.
On the Rathcroghan plateau. An area of c. 2 ha (c. 4 acres) is divided into small rectangular paddocks (dims c. 20-25m x c.10m) by low earthen banks (Wth c. 3m; H 0.3m) or scarps on either side of the road (RO022-057021-) which here widens (Wth c. 20m). Two rectangular house sites are integral with the paddocks. House (RO022-057079-) (ext. dims 11.2m E-W; 6.2m N-S) has one room and a doorway in the S wall. House (RO022-057080-) (ext. dims 13.2m E-W; 7.2m N-S) has two or possibly three rooms. About 30m W of these is a house (RO022-057086-) (ext. dims c. 12m E-W; c. 8m N-S) of two rooms which incorporates the N boundary of the road in its S wall and is situated in its own paddock. About 70m N of the centre of the settlement is a house (RO022-057087-) (ext. dims c. 16.5m E-W; c. 6.5m N-S) of two rooms with entrances (Wth c. 1.5m) in the N and S walls of the larger room. Archaeological testing (E004014) immediately SE of the settlement produced no related material (Purcell 2009; excavation.ie 2009:703).
