Tobernagreaghta

In a low-lying landscape near the junction of two streams. The well known as Tobernagreaghta was famous in the 19th century for curing wounds according to J. O'Donovan in 1837 (O'Flanagan 1931, vol. 1, 53). It is thought to be the original site of St Bridget's Well of Cloonmurly (RO040-017----), c. 65m to the E, which moved when it was desecrated by an unbeliever, Robert Ormsby. Tobernagreaghta is associated with the tradition of healing wounds, noted as early as the 19th century. Local folklore suggests the well's waters were believed to have curative properties, particularly for physical injuries.
