Moyaliff Castle stands on an eight-metre motte above the Clodiagh River, preserving a limestone tower that James le Botiller, Earl of Ormond, owned in 1338. The manor was then so neglected that nobody wished to hold it, yet local burgesses still paid rent for two hundred and twenty acres nearby. Inside the ruined chamber, collapsed stairs and a drainage chute remain visible beneath the open sky. The strange projecting southeast wall and missing shingle roof suggest a building constantly adapted rather than grandly designed.
