One narrow stone tunnel appeared below the Timolin road in 1903, its flag roof spanning less than a metre and its walls built without mortar. It stretched north toward the mill, and bones were reported inside, suggesting death and concealment rather than passage for the living. The tunnel has been filled, but its shape remains plain: a small chamber made by human hands, hidden beneath an ordinary road.

Fitzgerald (JKAS 1903, 163-7) mentions two possible Man-made underground passages in the immediate vicinity of the monastery (KD036-025001-). One (KD036-025005-) was uncovered in 1903 below the road immediately to the N of the present cemetery. It was of dry stone construction, roofed with flags, (Wth. 0.6m, D. 0.9m) and extended N towards the mil. It was reported to have contained human bones. A second possible Man-made underground passage (KD036-025006-), apparently similar, was found close to the E end of the present church. Both are now filled in. Date of upload: 5 September 2016
