Kilmeedy West lost a six-foot standing stone in 1905 when Callaghan O'Callaghan smashed it on his own land. The violence suggests fear, anger or simple impatience with something that refused to leave the ground. That much of the stone vanished while a foot remained buried means the place still holds an edge of the old shape.

According to Broker (1937, 30) there was a standing stone in Callaghan O'Callaghan's land '....6 feet high. Smashed by owner in 1905....only one foot under ground'. Exact location not known.
