Standing stone

What is recorded here

Marked only on the 1940 ed. of the OS 6-inch map and situated towards the bottom of a W-facing slope, with a N-S stream c. 350m to the W. It was recroded in 1939 as being oriented NE-SW (H c. 0.95m) (OSFM). The stone (dims. 0.8m x 0.4m; H 1.7m), which may be a limestone, was removed from its original position and in 1987 is lying by a field bank just to the E (WX006-089----). The ecclesiastical site (WX003-005----) is c. 120m to the NNE. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Wexford' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1996). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload/revision: 20 November 2012
