Site of Church is a church in Ballingarry Lower, County Tipperary, Ireland. It stands on a west-facing slope of rising ground in an upland area with good views in all directions. In 1478 the priory of St Catherine the Virgin, Waterford leased the rectory to laymen, leaving the church in ruins and parishioners without worship. A slight rise in the centre of the graveyard may mark the levelled medieval church, while a nearby castle sits 160 metres to the northwest.
On a W-facing slope of rising ground in upland area with good views in all directions. Nearby castle (TS055-015----) located 160m to the NW. In 1640, according to the Civil Survey (1654-6), the glebeland consisted of 2 acres of land situated on the E side of the church and fenced about with a ditch (Simington 1934, vol. 2, 399). In 1478 the priory of St Catherine the Virgin, Waterford was charged with leasing the rectory of Ballingarry to ' diverse laymen'. As a result, the church at Ballingarry was said to be in ruins and the parishioners deprived of divine worship (Hennessey 1985, 69). The medieval church is not visible at ground level but a slight rise of ground in centre of graveyard may mark the site of the levelled church. It was located within a graveyard (TS055-016002-) which contains 18th and 19th-century memorials. A 19th C of I church, of which there are now no remains, may have been built on the site of the medieval church as stated by O'Donovan in the OS letters (O'Flanagan 1930, vol.1, 155). A modern bungalow is built in the field adjoining the graveyard on the E side.
