What is recorded here
The eighteenth-century Windmill Stump stands scheduled in County Down, its missing structure implied by the stump itself. Whether it ground grain, pumped water or marked a boundary remains unrecorded. A miller may have stood at that spot, listening for the particular sound of the sails, before the whole machine disappeared. The stump still holds the shape of what was lost.
The official Northern Ireland record identifies this as Windmill Stump - IHR 03465. Recorded period: C18TH. Recorded protection: Scheduled. The official map point was placed at the centre of the recorded archaeological site from the source map reference.
The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
