Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Indicated is a fairy fort or earthen ringfort in Runnabackan, County Roscommon, Ireland. It occupied a north-facing slope on a broad west-east spur. A 1969 description recorded a subcircular area with an earthen bank and flat-bottomed fosse, but that feature was removed before 1972. Three other raths stand within 180 metres to the west, southwest and east-southeast.
On the N-facing slope of a broad W-E spur. Described in 1969 (SMR file) as a subcircular area (int. dims c. 40m E-W; c. 36m N-S) defined by an earthen bank (int. H c. 0.6m; ext. H c. 1.8m) and flat-bottomed fosse (Wth of base c. 2.5m; D 0.6m) which was removed before 1972 (Gannon 1972). It is not visible at ground level in pasture. Rath (RO034-072----) is c. 150m to the W, rath (RO034-075----) is c. 180m to the SW, and rath (RO035-044----) is c. 180m to the ESE. Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 24 August 2010
