Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Rougham

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Death and change have removed the Rougham fortress from human memory. It may have stood as a home, a trap, a temple or a warning before forgetting erased it. The fairy fort lives nowhere now except in the desire to find what is no longer visible.
According to Mac Cárthaigh (1980, 121) there is a 'lios' in this townland. Unable to locate. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 1: West Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1992). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
