Childrens Burial Ground

Children's burial ground

What is recorded here

Childrens Burial Ground occupies a rath in County Mayo, Ireland, where unbaptised babies were laid to rest. Small, low, moss-covered stones still break through the dense vegetation, marking little lives the main churchyard refused. They remain hidden beneath green growth, waiting for someone patient enough to kneel and listen.
In a rath (MA119-028001-). The interior of the rath was used for the burial of unbaptised babies. Several small, low moss-covered unshaped and uninscribed stones protrude from the ground. These appear to be gravemarkers. Due to dense overgrowth, they are difficult to see, and it was not possible to determine their density or any pattern in their layout.
