What is recorded here
Oyster Haven in Ringville holds a hidden midden on its north side, opposite Rathmore House. Coleman located the waste deposit in 1916, though no surface trace remains visible. The water may have taken the evidence, carrying local life and loss into the bay.
Recorded by Coleman (1916, 183) as 'on the north side of Oyster Haven, opposite Rathmore House'. No visible surface trace.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 2: East and South Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1994). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
