Fulacht fia in Rathpatrick (galmoy By.)

Fulacht fia

What is recorded here

Muddy water hissed into hot stones, filling the air with steam and the smell of wet earth. People gathered at the bog edge to cook, clean or mark a change in the world. The triangular mound still holds blackened soil and cracked stone, waiting for the sound of that old rush of life to return.
Situated at the edge of a bog, close to a well. A roughly triangular mound (sides 10m x 5m x 5m; H 0.5m) composed of blackened earth and fire-cracked stones. In a forested area (OS ortho photograph 2010). Compiled by: Mary Tunney Date of upload: 22 August 2012
