Indicated is a rectangular graveyard beside the parish church of Rataine in County Meath, Ireland. It sits on a slight rise above a flat landscape, giving the dead a small command over the surrounding land. Masonry walls now hold the place, though they were absent when Dopping wrote in the late 1680s. The missing slab of Richard Bedlow from 1601 suggests that even graveyards forget what they once kept.

Located on a rise in a fairly level landscape. The parish church of Rataine is within a rectangular graveyard (dims c. 45m WNW-ESE; c. 30m NNE-SSW) defined by masonry walls, which were not present in the late 17th century according to Dopping (1682-5) (Ellison 1972, 12). The graveslab of Richard Bedlow (Bellew) dated 1601 (ME030-011003-), which is described by Conwell (1872-3, 381-2), is no longer present. Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 5 January, 2015
