Half-hidden on a sloping drumlin in Rakelly, the fort keeps its shape in grass and soil while losing its entry. It is the kind of place where human borders became fairy boundaries because people stopped knowing what the circle was for. What is missing is not the wall but the witness: the door, the household and the reason the land still treats the outline as sacred.

Located on a shelf towards the bottom of the NE-facing slope of a drumlin. This is a circular grass-covered area (diam. c. 35-40m) defined by an earthen field bank and hedge S-W-N, which is reduced to a scarp (at E: H 1m) and hedge with an outer drain elsewhere. The original entrance is not identified. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Monaghan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986).
