Prison in Naas West

Prison

What is recorded here

Naas West contained three small prisons called Bridewells, though only one place remains clear: North Main Street beside Lattin's castle. The others have vanished from local memory, denied even the kindness of a marker. What those missing rooms held, who struck their walls or starved inside them, has gone with them.
According to Bradley et al. (1986 vol. 4, 372), 'Three of these (Bridewells) are mentioned by Healy (1984, 13).' Their precise locations are unknown, but one is thought to have stood in North Main Street, near Lattin's castle (KD019-030015-). Compiled by: Gearóid Conroy Date of upload: 10 June 2011
