What is recorded here

Indicated is a circular earthen ringfort on a drumlin ridge in County Monaghan, marked as a fort on an 1834 map but reduced to a subcircular field by 1907. The bank still stands about thirty metres across, though no entrance or ditch remains visible. It may have been a home, a boundary marker, or a place people avoided, but the land has taken back most of its purpose.

Located at the crest of the S-facing slope of an E-W drumlin ridge. A circular embanked enclosure (ext. diam. c. 35m) described as a ‘fort’ in gothic lettering is depicted on the 1834 edition of the OS 6-inch map, and it is shown as a subcircular field on the 1907 edition. This is an overgrown area (diam. c. 30m) defined by an earthen bank, but there is no visible fosse or entrance.
